Bookmarket

December 7th, 2010

Come to the Bookmarket at the Fruitmarket Gallery this Thursday eve! I shall be at the Edinburgh Printmakers table with Sue Corke of scratch’n'sniff Moon fame and book artist Anna Davis. See you there!

books!

November 24th, 2010

Thanks to everyone who came to my talk at the Edinburgh Printmakers Open Day! It was lovely to see you. My feature in the EP shop is now over, but I’m pleased with how it went – I had many compliments, and even some sales. All in all, a good show.

Meanwhile, there is a new book is the book section, Why I Love Printmaking. It’s a very small thing, quickly drawn up while I was waiting for grounds to dry and aquatints to cool while working on the new plates at Glasgow Print Studio – ironically, despite being all about traditional etching techniques, resin dust, solvents and bunsen burners, it was screenprinted (with safe water-based inks) at Edinburgh Printmakers, printed on newsprint and bound with my sewing machine. Very nice to churn out fifty books in a day, rather than one etching every ninety minutes. There are currently lots available and it’s cheap at four pounds, so get in touch if you want one (see “contact” section)! I’m currently busy making more books, among them a new and improved edition of Hints for Etiquette, so keep an eye out for more updates!

I shall also be at the Edinburgh Printmakers table at the Fruitmarket Gallery‘s Artist’s Book Fair on December 9th, where you’ll be able to have a chat, see this book and many many others.

In other news, my sister has set up her own academic translating business! She’s very accomplished and experienced at English/German translation (both ways), and her website is now live – and there are small drawings on it, by yours truly! So do have a look.

this month’s feature

November 4th, 2010

I’m really pleased to announce that I am the Featured Artist at Edinburgh Printmakers this month! Not only is my November print in the EP fundraising calendar, but I also have new work on the walls of the shop! It will be up until November 23rd 2010, so do drop by if you can.

The three newest pieces are huge etchings of musicians, and due to their size I couldn’t fit them on the press at EPW. They have been made at the print studio at Dundee Contemporary Arts and most of all, Glasgow Print Studio. Thanks very much to everyone at both institutions for helping me create these pieces, especially Ian McNicol at GPS who mixed up the Nitric for my huge zinc plates at very short notice! Thanks also to Paul Musgrove who provided me with zinc, and Amber Arts for doing a great framing job.

On Saturday, November 13th it’s Open Day at Edinburgh Printmakers! There will be lots to see, as it will also be the opening of the Winter member’s Exhibition, Myths and Legends. There will be courses and printmaking demos throughout the day, and many artist’s talks – including mine, at 12:30! I will be talking about my work featured in the shop, how I made it and the inspiration for it, and then you can ask me questions! (Preferably related to the work.) It would be great to see you, so do come along.

news in print

October 25th, 2010

Servus! I have finally uploaded two new prints to the print section! They were created specifically for the Edinburgh Art Festival exhibition at Amber Arts gallery and work very well as a pair. They are based on old photographs I have of my grandparents as children.

Meanwhile I am very busy making some large prints! They are so large, I can’t print them at Edinburgh Printmakers workshop, and so I’ve been travelling to Dundee and Glasgow. More on them later, but here’s a small preview of the work in progress…

inky-lute

hello!

August 18th, 2010

Welcome to my shiny new website!

I hope you like it and have fun making the trapeze girl do all sorts of tricks on the front page! This website was built most wonderfully by Olly Jackson and I think he did a good job!!

This “news” blog will contain updates on exhibitions that I have work in, or my friends have work in, or general things that I feel are worth a mention – and maybe even news about what I’m working on at the moment, so it’s worth checking it every once in a while. You can also add it to your RSS feed.

As regards sales, I have not yet set up any sort of shop on this site so you will need to get in touch if there is something you might want to buy, though not all things are available. This is something that will be sorted out at a later date. At the moment, this website functions primarily as a showcase portfolio (though I am, of course, open for business).

If you want to see some of my work in the real world, my two newest etchings are at the Amber Arts festival exhibition, “The Space Between”. I also have work in the Edinburgh Printmakers gallery browsers and shop, and at the Owl&Lion Gallery and the Cat’s Miaou (all Edinburgh, Scotland) and schauhi … PapierSachen in Regensburg, Germany.

I hope you enjoy looking around this website, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions as to the availability of any prints and books, or want to point out spelling mistakes etc.
